This Week’s Topic: Top Ten Books I’d love to see as movies

1. Rebel Belle, by Rachel HawkinsDarkestMinds
When they said ‘Legally Blonde meets Terminator’, they weren’t kidding. Honestly, the whole time I was reading this, I was thinking ‘how good would this be as a movie?’.

2. Pivot Point, by Kasie West

3. The Darkest Minds, by Alexandra Bracken

Masquerade4. Masquerade, by Kylie Fornasier
Just for the costumes alone I would want this movie.

5. Half Bad, by Sally Green

6. Unearthly, by Cynthia Hand

7. Legend, by Marie Lu

8. Throne of Glass, by Sarah J. MaasTheRavenBoys
Umm…because…Throne of Glass…duh.

9. Under the Never Sky, by Veronica Rossi

10. The Raven Boys, by Maggie Stiefvater
Ok, I was a little hesitant adding this to the list, because it is just so amazing, but I think that if it was done well, it could be just as amazing as a movie.

Book Nerd Problems, Top Ten Tuesday

TTT

Top Ten Tuesday is a thing where we get given a topic, and we have to list our ‘top ten’ things for the topic. Pretty self-explanatory.
Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by The Broke and the Bookish

This Week’s Topic: Top Ten Book Related Problems

1. Buying ALL THE BOOKS

I run out of money quite quickly when I do this.

2. Borrowing ALL THE BOOKS

I have this bad habit of binge-borrowing books, and then I don’t have time to read them all before they’re due back.

3. Requesting ALL THE BOOKS

Ahh, Netgalley, such a wonderful website.

The problem is, I request 5 books in the hope of getting accepted for one.

Then I get accepted for all five.

4. Having nothing to read

Now, I KNOW I’m not the only one here. So many books on the TBR pile, and yet you just don’t know which book you’re in the mood for.

5. Wanting to read everything

So many books, so little time.

6. Wanting to reread everything

I love rereading books. I think one of the main factors contributing to my not completing last years goodreads challenge that I set for myself was that I spent the majority of the year rereading Vampire Academy and Bloodlines.

7. Time, time, time

Sigh. Why can’t people see that I don’t want a social life. I just want to sit in my room and read.

8. Space, space, space

The bookshelves are filling up, and they’re only getting fuller.

And I don’t exactly have room for more bookshelves.

9. EDITIONS

The editions must match! Otherwise it ruins everything!!

You know what else ruins everything? Spending months searching for the correct edition.

10. Other people not understanding

“It’s only a book; it’s not real; look, there’s a space, just put the book there; you need to talk to people, you can’t just sit in there and read”

I think we all understand the frustration there.

Romance in Books, Top Ten Tuesday

TTT

Top Ten Tuesday is a thing where we get given a topic, and we have to list our ‘top ten’ things for the topic. Pretty self-explanatory.
Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by The Broke and the Bookish

This Week’s Topic: Ten Things I Like/Dislike When it comes to Romance in Books

Five things I like:

1. The Shipping
Can we all just take a moment to appreciate just how much fun this is.

2. When the couple are also friends
And I don’t mean when the forever-best-friend suddenly reveals that he/she’s been in love with the other all this time. That’s annoying. But I mean when the two people aren’t just all about gazing lovingly at each other, but are actually really good friends.

3. When the character’s actually trust each other
It annoys me when the character’s have been together a while, but then one of them sees the other doing something that may be considered suspicious (ie, walking out of a room that another girl was in), they automatically assume the worst.
Where is the trust, people?
And then they don’t give the character a chance to explain what was happening. Which leads to all sorts of complications.

4. When they are able to function without the other
Sometimes you get characters, and as soon as one of them is away, the other one doesn’t know what to do with their life.
That is not good.

5. The way Maggie Stiefvater writes romance
I’m sorry…I just had to put this in here. (Totally not sorry).

Five things I dislike

6. Instalove
I have a feeling that this will be a popular one. Often, I don’t mind it so much, and it rarely affects my enjoyment of the story, but still…annoying.

7. Love Triangles
When they aren’t done well!! I feel the need to make that clarification, because there is a difference between good love triangles and bad ones.

8. When the Best friend is secretly in love with the main character
I dunno…it just really bugs me. Especially since they never seem to have the guts to say anything about it until they miss their chance, and then get really annoyed at the other for not noticing.

9. When it’s all romance and no talking
Relationships don’t last without conversation. Conversation is how you get to know people. You can’t be in love with someone if all you ever do with them is make out.

10. The “I’ve watched you from a distance for several months/years without you knowing and now I’m in love with you” thing
This happens WAY too often. Seriously.
Usually ends with a “now I won’t kill you/take you away to marry my relative/take you to my leader who doesn’t like you”

Goals for 2015, Top Ten Tuesday

TTT

Top Ten Tuesday is a thing where we get given a topic, and we have to list our ‘top ten’ things for the topic. Pretty self-explanatory.
Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by The Broke and the Bookish

This Week’s Topic: Top Ten Goals/Resolutions For 2015 — bookish, blogging or otherwise

Blogging

1. Fix up the way I do blogging
While I’m ok with the way I’m currently doing things, there are several things I want to change.

2. Write more reviews
I wrote barely any reviews last year. So, my aim is to make reviews a regular thing, instead of an occasional thing.

3. Write more discussion posts
Now, I wrote, like, none of these in the past year, but I have ideas for some. Now I just have to write them.

Books

4. Limit the books I buy this year
Last year, the book buying got a little out of hand. So, I’m going to (attempt to) severely limit the books I buy this year.

5. Keep up with Netgalley books
I went nuts with requesting…and then got a ton of approvals that I wasn’t expecting.
Needless to say, I fell behind.

6. Keep reading regularly despite uni
While I obviously find uni important, last semester I went an entire month without reading anything, and I could tell. When the semester finished, it wasn’t until I started reading again that I began to feel better.

Writing

7. Continue working on NaNoWriMo novel
As anyone who follows me on twitter may be aware, I got to 15,000 words during NaNoWriMo. Basically, my plan is to finish writing it so that I can write the sequel for NaNoWriMo2015.

Life

8. Travel to Melbourne in February for the Bloodlines thing
The only thing possibly stopping me from doing this is money. Basically, this means no books so that I can save up for this trip. I. Am. Going.

9. Run a youth group
So, I’m already sort-of doing this, but the thing is that just in time for term 4 I lost both my other leaders. So last term was a struggle just to keep the group running. So this year, I need to keep the group running properly.

10. Read the Bible more regularly
This is something I’ve been wanting to get into the habit of doing for years. Time to start.

Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by The Broke and the Bookish

This Week’s Topic: Top Ten Books I Read In 2014

I’m going to start by saying this is a cruel topic…HOW am I supposed to pick 10?

1. Vampire Academy and Bloodlines, by Richelle Mead
The whole of both series. Seriously, WHY did I wait so long to read these? They are so amazing!!!

Throne of Glass2. Throne of Glass, by Sarah J. Maas
Again, whole series. Just so awesome!

3. Sinner, by Maggie Stiefvater
An unexpected extra story featuring Cole and Isabelle from Shiver…IT WAS AWESOME!!

4. If I Stay, by Gayle Forman
Oh, this made me cry! It was a 4 hour long audio book that I started at midnight and finished at 4am. So worth it.

5. Dracula, by Bram Stoker
I’ve wanted to read this for YEARS! And it did NOT disappoint.

6. Four: A Divergent Collection, by Veronica Roth
After the less-than-fantastic book that was Allegiant, I am SO GLAD Veronica Roth wrote this. It made me remember why I loved Divergent and Insurgent so much.
Even if I did spend most of it going “this person’s dead, this person’s dead, that one is still alive, but crippled, oh look, another dead person…”TheOne

7. Pivot Point, by Kasie West
Both books. Seriously loved these.

8. The One, by Kiera Cass
Great ending for the series. Seriously, fantastic.

9. Mind Games, by Kiersten White
Loved it. Seriously. I’ve loved all of Kiersten White’s books.

DarkWorld10. The Dark World, by Cara Lynn Shultz
I loved Spellbound and Spellcaster, so naturally I bought this as soon as I could..
I loved it!!

And because there is NO WAY I am sticking with 10, here are some more…

11. Half Bad, by Sally Green
ASDFGHJHGF! Amazing.

12. The Immortal Rules, by Julie Kagawa
Another book I’d been meaning to read this for years. And again, I was not disappointed.

Blue Lily13. Blue Lily, Lily Blue, by Maggie Stiefvater
Yes, two Maggie Stiefvater books, but they were both JUST SO GOOD!!

14. Disruption, by Jessica Shirvington
I can’t believe it took me so long to getting around to reading this author. This book was amazing, as was its sequel.

15. Falling into Place, by Amy Zhang
There is one reason this is so far down the list is because I only finished it on Sunday.
Oh my goodness, I TOTALLY get why people love this book.
