But…how…wait…Where did the year go??

So…October was a busy month

First of all, I FINALLY got to go to the YA Book Club that meets at Dymocks once a month 😀

(I’ve been trying to get there since the first one)
And so I got my copy of In The Skin of a Monster signed 🙂

And then there was a rerelease of the first Pokemon movie at Hoyts, so naturally, my brother and I HAD to go see it (we have it on video…VIDEO, PEOPLE), and my sister hadn’t seen it, so she came along too.
Much fun was had.

Also, the Back to the Future movies are now set entirely in the past. Please excuse me while I go lament the fact that I do not yet have a pink hoverboard.

And the Illuminae Book Launch happened! Aside from a disappointing lack of underwater jet skis, it was very enjoyable. And I got to meet the authors, which was pretty awesome.

Top Ten Tuesday is a thing where we get given a topic, and we have to list our ‘top ten’ things for the topic. Pretty self-explanatory.
Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by The Broke and the Bookish

This Week’s Topic: Top Ten Auto-buy Authors

Regardless of whether I have money or not, you can be pretty sure I’ll buy the newest book from these authors:

Throne of Glass1. Sarah J. Maas
Having read all the Throne of Glass series, and ACOTAR, I can truthfully say I will probably love anything this woman writes.

 2. Rachael Craw
Everyone should know by now that my love of Spark knows no bounds. And I am sure this love will continue with any other bookSpark Rachael Craw decides to write. (She’s amazing, people!!)

3. Julie Kagawa
I searched for ages to find The Iron King, wanting desperately to read it. And I was in no way disappointed. Since then, I have been able to get my hands on all of Julie Kagawa’s books, and I have loved them all.

TheRavenBoys4. Maggie Stiefvater
Ok, I really don’t think I need to explain this one. I need The Raven King like I need air.

5. Alexandra Bracken
I cannot believe it took me so long to get around to reading The Darkest Minds! I loved it so very much, and am VERY excited for Passenger.

6. Kiera Cass
It’s funny, that the only reason I read The Selection was because my sister wanted to read it…I may have barely given it a second glance otherwise, and wouldn’t that be disappointing.

7. Cynthia Hand
With the exception of the very beginning of Unearthly, I absolutely ADORED the Unearthly trilogy, and The Last Time We Say Goodbye was pretty amazing too. I can’t wait to see what Cynthia Hand writes next.

RebelBelle8. Rachael Hawkins
It took me WAY too long to find Hex Hall, but it was worth the effort. And the Rebel Belle trilogy has been just as good so far.

9. Michelle HodkinMaraDyer
The Mara Dyer trilogy was so fantastically creepy! I’ve actually been wanting to reread the series for a while.

10. Stephanie Oakes
Ok, so she’s only got one book out so far…but it’s a darn good one. I am very excited to see what’s out next.

How I Met The Selection

Kiera Cass, The Heir, The Selection

IMG_4659As some of you may have noticed, The Heir came out last week. Since this is very exciting, I thought I might share how I came about reading The Selection in the first place…

IMG_4655Once upon a time, a girl went to visit the library. Now, this was a very good library, and the young adult selection was very good. This girl had gone to the library to look at all the pretty books, to see if any caught her eye.

As she scanned the shelves (in alphabetical order, of course), she came up to the Cs. Here she saw a book with a pretty blue dress on the cover. “Say,” said the girl, “I believe I saw that book on Goodreads. I think my sister desires to read it.”

And so the girl grabbed the book and continued browsing.IMG_4656

Sometime later, she returned home with her books. “This is a very pretty cover” she thought to herself, looking at the book with the blue dress. “I may just read it myself.”

And so she read the book titled ‘The Selection’. As did her sister, and together they fangirled.

IMG_4660Some more time passed, but before it was time to return the book to the library, the girl gave the book to her mother. “You will enjoy this” she insisted.

Two days later, her mother opened her bedroom door, threw the book at the girl and shouted “You didn’t tell me it was a series! How long until the next book comes out?”

“Only a few weeks,” the girl replied, glad that she had already investigated this.IMG_4662

“Good,” replied the mother, “I need to know what happens.”

And so it came to pass that the girl bought The Selection. And when the sequel came out, she bought that, too. And there was much fangirling, and a great desire to discover how the series ended.

And so, when the final book was released, there was much rejoicing, and admiration of the pretty dress.

IMG_4657Months passed, and suddenly there was an announcement…there would be another book!

And so there was more rejoicing and fangirling.

When the new book was finally released, the girls mother read it eagerly, while the girl waited for a lull in her studies, so that she too may share in the joy of the new book.

Ok, I feel like I need to mention that I did not intentionally set about writing it like that…it just happened.

But, yes, that is the story.

The Selection:

So, Kiera Cass has announced TWO MORE SELECTION BOOKS!!! As well as another novella from Marlee’s POV!!

GUYS I’M EXCITED!!

You can view the announcement, and also read the first three chapters of The Queen, and read an extra epilogue for The One here.

Dangerous Boys:

Dangerous Boys

At some point in the past week (I think it was on Thursday), Dangerous Boys, by Abigail Haas came out.

As much as I enjoyed Dangerous Girls, I wasn’t really planning on reading this one…but then at least 3 of the blogs I follow reviewed it and said it was awesome, so now I have to read it.

The Notebook Sisters Giveaway:

So, the wonderful Notebook Sisters did a Q&A with Darren Groth, and are hosting a giveaway of Are You Seeing Me?

Click here to view the post.

Books Read:

The Girl in the Steel Corset, by Kady Cross
I have no idea what put me off this book for so long…I loved it.

And I started reading:

The Assassin’s Blade, by Sarah J. Maas
Until I can get my hands on Crown of Midnight, this will have to do to satisfy my Throne of Glass cravings (I think I’ve found a new favourite series*).

*Note: by ‘new favourite’ I mean it gets added to the list of favourites…it does not replace anything.
