Stacking the Shelves is a thing where we talk about the books we’ve collected in the past week. These can be bought, delivered, ARCs, ebooks, etc.. Pretty self-explanatory.

But…how…wait…Where did the year go??

So…October was a busy month

First of all, I FINALLY got to go to the YA Book Club that meets at Dymocks once a month 😀

YABookMeetDymocks

(I’ve been trying to get there since the first one)
And so I got my copy of In The Skin of a Monster signed 🙂

20151003_18385820151003_183148

And then there was a rerelease of the first Pokemon movie at Hoyts, so naturally, my brother and I HAD to go see it (we have it on video…VIDEO, PEOPLE), and my sister hadn’t seen it, so she came along too.
Much fun was had.

Also, the Back to the Future movies are now set entirely in the past. Please excuse me while I go lament the fact that I do not yet have a pink hoverboard.

And the Illuminae Book Launch happened! Aside from a disappointing lack of underwater jet skis, it was very enjoyable. And I got to meet the authors, which was pretty awesome.

Plans for November?

It’s November now…which means EXAMS ARE COMING!

And this time around, I get the added pleasure of having both my exams on the SAME DAY!

So…yeah…I’m gonna be disappearing for a little bit. I’ll post occasionally, but I will be mostly absent.

So, how was your October? Any Plans for November? Let me know.

It’s May Now

So, the plan for April was:

– Participate in CampNaNoWriMo
– Read many books
– Buy very few books

How did I do? Well…

– I did participate in Camp NaNo, however, I only got up to 5000 words, which was half-way towards my goal of 10,000. I’m happy with it 🙂
I also downloaded the free trial of Scrivener, and I love it.

– I read some books…nowhere near as many as I was planning. My holidays was way more busy than I was planning (plus consisted of binge watching the final seasons of The Mentalist).

Read-April-2015

– Up until the last week of April, I BOUGHT NO BOOKS!
And then I went and bought 4 books last week.

Bought-April-2015

And I received a few books from publishers. My first review copies and requested ARC 🙂

Received-April-2015

Some things I have coming up in May:

– Uni is wrapping up
Which means final assessments and exams and a whole manner of horrible things. So, I’ll try to keep up posting, but I’m not promising anything.

– TeenCon15
I’m SO EXCITED FOR THIS! It’s not until the end of the month, but still.

Abigail Haas, Amanda Ashby, Anna Banks, Christopher Paolini, Debra Driza, Jessica Spotswood, Jim Butcher, Kady Cross, Matthew Reilly, Neal Shusterman, Only read 1 book authors, Top Ten Tuesday

Hosted by The Broke and the Bookish

This Week’s Topic: Top Ten Authors I’ve Only read one book from, but I NEED to read more

1. Jim Butcher
I’ve read the first Dresden Files, and while I really enjoyed it, I haven’t got a to reading the rest yet.

2. Matthew Reilly
I’ve read Contest, and I did really like it. My mum and brother have read all his other stuff.

3. Neal Shusterman
I’ve read Unwind, and I’ve been planning to read the rest of the series for a while.

4. Jessica Spotswood
I’ve only read Born Wicked, because I haven’t found the sequels at the library yet.

5. Christopher Paolini
I’ve only read Eragon, but that’s only because I haven’t had a chance to read the rest of the series.

6. Abigail Haas
I read Dangerous Girls, and Dangerous Boys has come out recently so I’m planning on reading that.

7. Debra Driza
I haven’t gotten Renegade (Mila 2.0 #2) yet, so I’ve only read one.

8. Amanda Ashby
I read Fairy Bad Day, and I thought it was great, but I haven’t really seen anything else that I want to read by her…

9. Anna Banks
I haven’t gotten the sequel to Of Poseidon yet, so…yeah.

10. Kady Cross
I loved The Girl in the Steel Corset, so I will definitely be getting the sequels.

So, yeah. That was really hard. I tried not to include authors who only have one book published, so the list ended up being (almost) made up entirely of authors who have series where I’ve only read the first book, but am planning on reading the rest.

Hosted by The Broke and the Bookish

This Week’s Topic: Top Ten Underrated books/series in YA

So, basically I interpreted this as ‘books/series that are not as popular as they should be’.

1. All Our Yesterdays, by Cristin Terrill

2. Ultraviolet, by R.J. Anderson

3. Elementals (series), by Brigid Kemmerer

4. Masquerade, by Kylie Fornasier

5. The Interrogation of Ashala Wolf, by Ambelin Kwaymullina

6. Let the Sky Fall, Shannon Messenger

7. Crash, by Lisa McMann

8. Spellbound, by Cara Lynn Shultz

9. Half Bad, by Sally Green

10. The Girl in the Steel Corset, by Kady Cross

Now, this one was hard, because I find it hard to tell what’s popular, and what’s not. So, basically, my rule was to look at the number of ratings on Goodreads. If it had under 20000 ratings, it made the list.
Interesting note: some series had a high number of ratings for the first book, but books 2 and 3 often had significantly lower numbers.

The Selection:

So, Kiera Cass has announced TWO MORE SELECTION BOOKS!!! As well as another novella from Marlee’s POV!!

GUYS I’M EXCITED!!

You can view the announcement, and also read the first three chapters of The Queen, and read an extra epilogue for The One here.

Dangerous Boys:

Dangerous Boys

At some point in the past week (I think it was on Thursday), Dangerous Boys, by Abigail Haas came out.

As much as I enjoyed Dangerous Girls, I wasn’t really planning on reading this one…but then at least 3 of the blogs I follow reviewed it and said it was awesome, so now I have to read it.

The Notebook Sisters Giveaway:

So, the wonderful Notebook Sisters did a Q&A with Darren Groth, and are hosting a giveaway of Are You Seeing Me?

Click here to view the post.

Books Read:

The Girl in the Steel Corset, by Kady Cross
I have no idea what put me off this book for so long…I loved it.

And I started reading:

The Assassin’s Blade, by Sarah J. Maas
Until I can get my hands on Crown of Midnight, this will have to do to satisfy my Throne of Glass cravings (I think I’ve found a new favourite series*).

*Note: by ‘new favourite’ I mean it gets added to the list of favourites…it does not replace anything.
