So…October was a busy month

First of all, I FINALLY got to go to the YA Book Club that meets at Dymocks once a month 😀

(I’ve been trying to get there since the first one)
And so I got my copy of In The Skin of a Monster signed 🙂

And then there was a rerelease of the first Pokemon movie at Hoyts, so naturally, my brother and I HAD to go see it (we have it on video…VIDEO, PEOPLE), and my sister hadn’t seen it, so she came along too.
Much fun was had.

Also, the Back to the Future movies are now set entirely in the past. Please excuse me while I go lament the fact that I do not yet have a pink hoverboard.

And the Illuminae Book Launch happened! Aside from a disappointing lack of underwater jet skis, it was very enjoyable. And I got to meet the authors, which was pretty awesome.

A Darker Shade of Magic, Alexandra Bracken, Amie Kaufman, Illuminae, Jay Kristoff, Passenger, Renee Ahdieh, Susan Dennard, The Wrath and the Dawn, Truthwitch, V.E. Schwab

Has anyone seen all the hype surrounding a book and gone OH MY GOSH I NEED THIS BOOK, and then when you tell your friends about it and how much you need it they’re all “What’s it about?”

And you just…

Shrug

Since this happens to me all the time, I thought I’d compile a list of books I desperately need, even though I have no idea what they’re about.

Illuminae, by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff

IlluminaeAs far as I can tell, everyone who’s read this book has absolutely loved it…and so I need it.

Even though I have no flippin’ clue what it’s about.

Like, none whatsoever.

I just need it.

Passenger, by Alexandra Bracken

PassengerAll I know about this is that Alexandra Bracken wrote it….and that’s more than enough for me to need it.

And look at that cover *gazes adoringly*

Truthwitch, by Susan Dennard

TruthwitchWow, do I need this book!

Again, no clue what it’s about, but that cover and that title and everyone says it’s awesome and OH MY GOSH JUST GIVE IT TO ME!

The Wrath and the Dawn, by Renee Ahdieh

WrathAndTheDawnLike, what even is this book about?

I don’t even know. But I’ve heard great things.

A Darker Shade of Magic, by V.E. Schwab

ADarkerShadeOfMagicI have heard many a good thing about this book…still have no idea what it’s supposed to be about, but check out that cover!

And that title…it beckons to me.

Now, just to clarify, I don’t actually want to know what these books are about…I love surprises.

But this does happen to me way too often, so I have to know: does this happen to anyone else? Or do you all look at the blurb before deciding how much you need it?

StageSelfieAs some of you may have noticed, I was at TeenCon2015 yesterday, which is a part of Sydney Writers Festival.

Painting my Support Team Jamie poster

I started preparing on Saturday, with a big blue piece of cardboard and some yellow paint.

As it turns out, yellow paint on cardboard appears green.

About 10 coats of paint later, the sign was looking adequately yellow.

And then came Sunday, and the journey toward TeenCon began.

Our trip started well, missing the train by a mere minute (I blame trackwork, which required us to go to a less familiar station). After missing the train, instead of having a full half-hour to find the venue, we had 10 minutes.

It took us half an hour.

Nevertheless, we eventually arrived, Team Jamie sign in tow, and ended up with seats…though not ones with an amazing view…

PoleInTheWay

There was a pole in my way

We had arrived during the bloggers panel, in which four popular booktubers were discussing various bookish things.

Bloggers

You don’t fall in love like you fall into a ditch

After the bloggers, the publisher people got up to tell us books that we need to read now, and books we need to pre-order now. Some of the books mentioned were:

Risk, by Fleur Ferris
The Sacred lies of Minnow Bly, by Stephanie Oakes

And then it was time for the Book Boyfriend Battle, in which each publisher had 30 seconds to talk about their two nominees.

Boyfriends nominated were:

’twas time for the Jamie sign to shine

Most unfortunately, Jamie did not win. Instead, the winner was

With Chaol and Four coming close second and third.

After the Battle, it was time for TeenCon to end, which meant BOOKS!

The Astrologer’s Daughter, by Rebecca Lim

And PRETTY BAGS that the books were in.

PenguinBag

After TeenCon, some of us stayed behind to chat. I got a picture with the wonderful Claire:

ClaireAndSign2

And got to (finally) meet some people who I had only met via twitter.

AfterTeenCon

Which was a lot of fun. We talked about books and…books.

My kind of party.

It was around 9pm when we began the trip home. I reunited with my travelling companions, and we got on a train towards the station.

However, I was to learn that my night was not yet over. As we passed through Central, I had an epiphany:

I had Chemistry homework due Monday morning.
