Top Ten Tuesday is a thing where we get given a topic, and we have to list our ‘top ten’ things for the topic. Pretty self-explanatory.

This Week’s Topic: Top Ten Six Books I Picked Up on a Whim

AllOurYesterdays1. All Our Yesterdays, by Cristin Terrill
Saw this in the bookstore, picked it up, began reading the first page to see if it was any good.
4 chapters and a massive headache because TIME TRAVEL later I found myself buying the book.

 2. Dangerous Girls, by Abigail Haas
A similar situation here to All Our Yesterdays. I began reading it in the bookstore and decided I needed it.

3. Storm, by Brigid KemmererStorm
The (Aus) cover was pretty. What was I supposed to do? Not buy it?

4. In The Skin of a Monster, by Kathryn Barker
I saw this in the bookstore and everything about it appealed to me…the cover, the title, the whole dreamscape concept. I regret nothing.

5. Half Bad, by Sally Green
Half BadThis one had a lot more deliberation attached to it. I almost bought it several times after reading the first chapter in the store…in the end, I got a free copy at PTALive.

6. Hex Hall, by Rachel Hawkins
My history with obtaining this book is a long and somewhat complicated one. I’ll tell you all about it some time.

 Which books made your list?

THIS YEAR, GUYS!!

 2. Alexandra Bracken
And same with The Darkest Minds! Only this year? Seriously?

3. Derek LandySkulduggeryPleasant

4. Ellie Marney
EveryBreathOH MY GOSH WHY DID I WAIT SO LONG TO READ EVERY BREATH???
Actually, I figured out why…it’s because NOBODY TOLD ME it was a Sherlock retelling.
You’re all fired.

5. Holly Black
Ok, not technically new to me this year…I tried reading Tithe last year, but I didn’t make it past the first couple of chapters. DarkestPartOfTheForestHowever, when Holly Black came to Aus, it was recommended to me that I try The Darkest Part of the Forest.
Which I did, and I loved it!

6. Laini Taylor
OrphanQueenDaughter of Smoke and Bone was fabulous. I have no idea why I haven’t read the rest of the series yet…I own them all.

7. Jodi Meadows
Orphan Queen was FANTASTIC!! Seriously, absolutely loved it.

So, there’s only 7 authors on this list…there would have been more, except I specifically did not include authors who debuted this year.

Who was on your list?

TTT: Bookish Habits I’m trying to Break

TTT

Top Ten Tuesday is a thing where we get given a topic, and we have to list our ‘top ten’ things for the topic. Pretty self-explanatory.

This Week’s Topic: Top Ten Seven Bookish Habits I’m trying to Break

1. Leaving series unfinished/not catching up
So far I’m actually getting better at this one…in July I caught up on almost all my series. But now a heap of books have come out again…*sigh*

 2. Binge Borrowing Books
Ok, let’s be honest here, this one probably isn’t going to happen any time soon. But I would like to be able to only borrow what I’ll be able to read in the time I have.

3. Leaving Books all over my floor
I’m getting better at this one, too. I recently cleaned out some space in my bookshelf for all the TBR pile books…but they barely fit. They’ll be back on the floor again before long.

4. STOP BUYING ALL THE BOOKS
Now, obviously I don’t want to literally stop buying books. That would be crazy. But I would like to stop the whole ‘read 5, buy 10’ thing I’ve got going on.

5. Stop spending more time on twitter complaining about lack of reading time than actually reading
Again, this is what I did in July. One week off from twitter. I read 7 books in 6 days. And I am still proud of that. And while a number of factors contributed to the amount of reading time I had available, it goes almost without saying that the lack of twitter had a great contribution.

6. Stop buying books online during lectures
Ok, so I don’t actually do this that often, but still…when in a lecture, one should probably not be buying books.

7. Stop blogging during lectures
Again…when in a lecture, I should be doing lecture things, not blogging.

And that’s it. Uni is frying my brain, so I’m currently unable to think of more habits I want to break…I’m sure there are, though.

What bookish habits are you trying to break?

This Week’s Topic: Top Ten Auto-buy Authors

Regardless of whether I have money or not, you can be pretty sure I’ll buy the newest book from these authors:

Throne of Glass1. Sarah J. Maas
Having read all the Throne of Glass series, and ACOTAR, I can truthfully say I will probably love anything this woman writes.

 2. Rachael Craw
Everyone should know by now that my love of Spark knows no bounds. And I am sure this love will continue with any other bookSpark Rachael Craw decides to write. (She’s amazing, people!!)

3. Julie Kagawa
I searched for ages to find The Iron King, wanting desperately to read it. And I was in no way disappointed. Since then, I have been able to get my hands on all of Julie Kagawa’s books, and I have loved them all.

TheRavenBoys4. Maggie Stiefvater
Ok, I really don’t think I need to explain this one. I need The Raven King like I need air.

5. Alexandra Bracken
I cannot believe it took me so long to get around to reading The Darkest Minds! I loved it so very much, and am VERY excited for Passenger.

6. Kiera Cass
It’s funny, that the only reason I read The Selection was because my sister wanted to read it…I may have barely given it a second glance otherwise, and wouldn’t that be disappointing.

7. Cynthia Hand
With the exception of the very beginning of Unearthly, I absolutely ADORED the Unearthly trilogy, and The Last Time We Say Goodbye was pretty amazing too. I can’t wait to see what Cynthia Hand writes next.

RebelBelle8. Rachael Hawkins
It took me WAY too long to find Hex Hall, but it was worth the effort. And the Rebel Belle trilogy has been just as good so far.

9. Michelle HodkinMaraDyer
The Mara Dyer trilogy was so fantastically creepy! I’ve actually been wanting to reread the series for a while.

10. Stephanie Oakes
Ok, so she’s only got one book out so far…but it’s a darn good one. I am very excited to see what’s out next.
