Weekly Adventures

In which I talk about things that happened this week.

At Uni

As some of you may be aware, I started back at uni on Monday. One week in and I am completely exhausted.

For my first computer programming workshop, I made this:

StickFigureProcessing

Which was really exciting, but the rest of the week was pretty boring.

Exhausting, but boring.

And I also go a taste of just how busy I’m going to be for the next 5 weeks. Out of the house by 6:30 every morning, getting home at 7pm most nights only to have to leave again for tutoring which means my day doesn’t really finish until 9pm.

So, if you’re wondering why I haven’t replied to any comments or commented on anyone else’s blog lately, you now know why. I’m still trying to figure out when would be a good time to designate to blog reading, but I haven’t got one yet.

Books Read

On the train, I read Soul Crossed, by Lisa Gail Green.

At home I’ve been reading Never Fade, by Alexandra Bracken. If it wasn’t for the fact that I have to be up at 5:30am every morning, I so would have finished it (and possibly the sequel) by now.

On This Blog

Monday: I farewelled my spare time
Tuesday: I listed my favourite book heroines
Wednesday: I reviewed Soul Crossed
Thursday: I gave a more detailed guide to my rating system
Friday: I took a break and posted nothing

Wow, I posted an awful lot for someone who said she wasn’t going to be around as often…don’t get used to this people.

NaNoWriMo

NaNoWriMo begins today!!

Due to the fact that uni is still happening, and exams are coming up, most of my writing will be restricted to weekends and the last week of November.

However, I’m still going to try.

And good luck to everyone else participating.

Insurgent Posters

You can view the interactive 3D posters here.

*EXCITEMENT*

Books released:

Talon, by Julie Kagawa

Books Read:

Blue Lily, Lily Blue, by Maggie Stiefvater
I just want to start by saying that I did not read this intentionally…IT WAS AN ACCIDENT!!
But it was SO GOOD! I don’t know what it is about those books, but they are just so amazing.
Also, I think my feels died a little.

A Court of Thorns and Roses, Blue Lily Lily Blue, Corruption, Disruption, Jessica Shirvington, Kiera Cass, Maggie Stiefvater, Sarah J. Maas, The Heir, This Week's Adventures

On the Internet

So…some internet stuff has happened this week, and I felt like I needed to say something about it. I don’t want to be more specific, because chances are, some of the people involved knew exactly how wrong it was, and they’re just doing this for all the attention.
The saying “all publicity is good publicity” exists for a reason.
So, I’m just going to say this:

1. Stalking is not ok under any circumstances.
2. Using pseudonyms online is not illegal.
3. Bloggers are allowed to dislike books.
4. A negative review will not ruin an author’s career, stalking a reviewer and bragging about it more than likely will.

Also, there was this thing about how reading Percy Jackson was bad for you…or something ridiculous like that. For that, I’ll just say this:

1. People can read whatever they want.
2. Language is constantly changing, and when you tell kids to only read the classics, you’re basically saying that the language of the past is the only language worth knowing. Let kids read what they’ll understand!!
Then they can go for the harder stuff.

Books released:

Blue Lily, Lily Blue, by Maggie Stiefvater
I’ve got my copy 🙂

Cover Reveals:

First, we have A Court of Thorns and Roses, by Sarah J. Maas

ACoTaR

(Not related to the Throne of Glass series)

And we also have The Heir, by Kiera Cass:

The Heir

SO EXCITED!!!

Books Read:

Disruption and Corruption, by Jessica Shirvington
Started Disruption AGES ago, but only finished it in the last week. I finished Corruption today…THE FEELS!!
They were both amazing, and I can’t believe it has taken me so long to read this author.

Black Ice, Becca Fitzpatrick
DNF.
I tried. I really tried. But I really could not stand any of the characters. Reading the synopsis on goodreads got me further in the story than me actually reading it did. I made it to chapter 5.
So, after DNF-ing Hush Hush, and now this, I think it’s fair to say this author isn’t for me.

This Week's Adventures

Note: I usually post this on Saturdays, but due to a variety of delays, it’s only getting posted now.
I’m sure you can all cope.

Between the Covers YA Party

Thursday night we had the awesome YA Party, hosted by the wonderful Harper Collins YA people

20141017-152316.jpg

We ate pizza (well, everybody else did…I don’t like pizza), got excited about books, and almost completely ruined the end of Disruption.

No Spoilers

And I got to meet the wonderful Jessica Shirvington

20141017-155449

We were, like, the last people there (almost).

Unfortunately, I didn’t really get to meet many bloggers, because the person in charge of getting us there decided to ignore the people who work at the building (who said we should get off at Town Hall), and instead told us to get off at Central.
It was a half-hour walk.
She is no longer in charge of organising how we get to things.

I did get to meet and say hi to Maddie, who blogs at The Girly Geek, though. Yay!

New Mockingjay Teaser/Trailer/Thing:

Books Read:

Sacrifice, by Brigid Kemmerer

I know, only 1 book read in 2 weeks…I blame uni.

Afterworlds, Are You Seeing Me?, Cassandra Clare, Darren Groth, Heir of Fire, Holly Black, Illusions of Fate, Kiersten White, Mockingjay, Rick Yancey, Sarah J. Maas, Scott Westerfeld, The Infinite Sea, The Iron Trial, This Week's Adventures

So, it’s been a while…

I realise I haven’t done this post in a couple of weeks…anyone following me on twitter will be aware that I had several tests/assignments, etc., and as such went on a ‘hiatus from life’ (that’s what I’m calling it, because it is the most accurate way I can think of to describe it).

But I’m on holidays now. YAY! (Only for one more week, though).

So, this post is going to contain things from the past few weeks.

Books released:

Illusions of Fate, by Kiersten White

The Infinite Sea, by Rick Yancey

Afterworlds, by Scott Westerfield

Mockingjay trailer:

Books Read:

Heir of Fire, by Sarah J. Maas
*Incoherent noises*

The Iron Trial, by Holly Black and Cassandra Clare
I wanted to like this one…I really did. The review is still under construction, but it won’t be an overly positive one.

Are You Seeing Me?, by Darren Groth
Definitely not my usual type of novel, but enjoyable nonetheless.

This week in blog posts:

Kirsty @ Studio Reads posted the first chapter of Half Wild

Emily @ The Loony Teen Writer started a link up for Loony Blurbs

Cait @ The Notebook Sisters talked about 10 Ways to make a Book Blogger Furious

Maddie @ The Girly Geek did an infographic on eBooks vs Physical Books

Books Read:
Opposition, by Jennifer L. Armentrout
Woah, a lot happened in this book…and it wasn’t even that long. Full review is coming soon.

Unite Me, by Tahereh Mafi
How do I feel about this book? Probably similar to the way I felt about Unravel Me…I still don’t like Warner, and I’m not much of a fan of Adam either…
I don’t know, I’ll read Ignite Me, but I’m not expecting to be thrilled.

Frozen, by Melissa de la Cruz and Michael Johnston
I liked it, but I had a lot of problems with it. Full review coming soon.

Divergent:

Divergent is OUT ON DVD!!!
I haven’t got mine yet, but it’s only a matter of time…

If I Stay:

If I Stay is now in Australian Cinemas (as of Thursday). I haven’t seen it yet, but I’ll be going sometime within the next month.

A Trip to the Bookstore:

So, as yesterday’s Stacking the Shelves will inform you, I bought 3 books in the past week. On Thursday, upon arriving at the bookstore (looking for Percy Jackson’s Greek Gods), I discovered that Heir of Fire was already in stock.

I was quite excited, especially when they had Percy Jackson there, too.

However, it was not to be. As it turns out, I am literally out of money. So I told the store I would be back on Monday with the money.

To be continued…

Blue Lily, Lily Blue:

Maggie Stiefvater has recently announced on Twitter that it will soon be time for her to start sharing teasers for Blue Lily, Lily Blue. *flails excitedly*

Beth Crowley:

Beth Crowley’s album Porcelain Heart comes out on Tuesday!!
If you pre-order today or tomorrow (click here), you can still get a signed copy.

Books Read:

Crown of Midnight, by Sarah J. Maas
ASDFGHJKL!! I would have Heir of Fire by now…but alas.

Opposition, by Jennifer L. Armentrout
Unsure as to whether or not I will have finished this, but I accidentally read 150 pages without realising how much I’d read…I’ll definitely have finished it by next week.

The Lost Files: Hidden Enemy, by Pittacus Lore
I love extras books, and this was no exception. Review coming Monday.
