Book characters do many things. Sometimes, we want to do what the book character’s do.
So, here is a list of things I have done, purely and simply because a book character did it.
1. Start Blogging
I know what you’re thinking, but this isn’t in the sense of “So many feels, where do I put them?”
Rather, it was reading Obsidian, by Jennifer L. Armentrout that started my desire to properly start blogging. As anyone who’s read it will be aware, the main character, Katy, owns a book blog.
This gave me an idea…and thus The Magical Adventures of Cassie the Weird was born.
It was still almost a year before I started posting regularly, though.
2. Name my Car
I entirely blame Richelle Mead for this one. I started reading Vampire Academy in March 2014. I started reading Bloodlines not long after that.
The main character of Bloodlines, one Sydney Sage, has this tendency to name her cars.
It was around this time that I was starting to drive more regularly. (My dad was starting to push me into getting my Ps).
Here’s where Maggie Stiefvater joins the tale. Because, you see, my car is blue.
The Raven Boys has a character called Blue, who sometimes gets called Jane.
My car’s name is Jane.
3. Wear Nail Polish more Regularly
I’m fairly sure this was Spellbound, by Cara Lynn Shultz.
Not that much of an irregular thing, I know, but I’m fairly sure it was this book which mentioned painting toenails or something, and at that point I got out all my old nail polish and went nuts.
And I still wear it as often as I can.
Have you ever done something because a character in a book did it? Or have you wanted to? Let me know in the comments.
That’s so cool that you started blogging because of a book. I’ve always named my car (I say that like I’ve had more than one) because my dad always named his. I can’t think of anything right now that I started doing because of a book, but I’m sure there have been a few things.
No-one else in my family names my car…unless the car is quirky enough to deserve a name (like, my sister’s car has them pop-up headlight thingys, so we named it Blinky).
What a cool post! Writing has made me do more things than books (I pick up quirks I give my characters…oops) but when I “grow up” all my pets will have fandom-related names 🙂
Ahh, yes. Pets.
I am planning on having a dog named Padfoot/Sirius, a cat named Crookshanks, and a ferret named Malfoy.
I also want to get a parrot and teach it to say “Help me, I’ve been turned into a parrot by the evil witch in this house”, but that has nothing to do with books.
Also, I’m not sure how that’s going to work, what with me being somewhat scared of birds and all…
Yeah Maggie Stiefvater has a lot to answer for for me!
Driving a manual car: every time I shift gears I feel like Ronan or Kavinsky!
Whenever I go into a forest or graveyard: (because sometimes that’s just what you do) I look for the leanan sidhe or bean sidhe or any other forest-y creature. Same with when I play my flute or piano I’m like, *_* Have I called any fairies with my supreme excellence yet? 😛
Vampire Academy ad Bloodlines made me start wearing more black and buying myself a leather jacket as well as grow my hair longer like Rose’s.
Bloodlines especially made me try coffee and then cherry flavoured cordial (because you don’t just go and buy a slushie in Australia)
Let’s see what else books have made me do….oh yes. I have become fiercly protective of my friends because of Vampire Academy, The Violet Eden Chapters, Divergent and any other book where there is a badass character protecting people.
Oh yeah and when I was a twelvie (naughty creatures twelvies) I decided that I was no longer ever ever cold because the vampires in twilight were never cold, and therefore I was a twilight vampire. *shudder* oh those days… I think I may have psychologically affected myself somehow because I actually wasn’t very cold those years. Whereas now, I get cold like a normal person.
I’m going to stop before everyone realises that I am essentially made up of book characters all smushed together but great post Cassie! Now I am left to question my existence and my likes…which are hauntingly similar to Maggie Stiefvater’s at this present moment…
Whoa, your comments are so long!
Wow, you are a walking mash-up of books. I often read a book where the character does something that sounds awesome, so I start trying it, but then discover it’s not my thing.
Like Sam’s paper-cranes (Shiver). I thought about doing that, but didn’t bother. My sister, on the other hand, now has many ‘paper’ cranes hanging from her ceiling, made out of various things.
This is such a new and exciting post! I don’t think I’ve ever seen something like this done, which is AWESOME <333
For me, I don't know if books influence my decisions, but I know it makes me open to a lot of random trivia. Like, someone was like "how do you DJ' and I was like "you have to make the beats align at the end of a song so it matches up" Thank you SO MUCH This Song Will Save Your LIfe ❤
So yeah, it makes me a walking google [although, a random google]
Naming your car?! That's the best ❤
Aww, thank you 🙂
Most of the random trivia I pick up from books is details of the American Schooling system.
Which is not very useful, living in Australia and all…
